Downtown New Yorkers should be happy to see that work on the much-anticipated East River Waterfront & EcoPark at Pier 35 is moving forward slowly but surely. When complete, the new landscaped esplanade will culminate in a lush EcoPark and green habitat that looks right out over the river. The East River Waterfront Esplanade was designed by SHoP Architects, and is part of a larger project to revitalize the East River and Lower Manhattan.
The city Economic Development Corporation’s plan to improve the East River Waterfront has reached several major milestones in the past year -- including opening the esplanade’s pilot section, as well as the new double-decker Pier 15. Over the coming months, work is ramping up on the project’s $24 million “Package 3,” which includes several improvements on Pier 35 and the uplands area around it, southward to Pike Slip.
Concreteworks East will again be providing concrete seatwalls with linear light coves that will light up the waterfront on the East River as well as other precast concrete components for Pier 35 and the East River 3 Package. Stay tuned for updates and check out the rendering previews.
