Scope: Stair Treads
The Local 580, New York City's ornamental iron workers union, represents the skilled men and women who install curtain wall facades, metal panels, and other architectural metal work that has become a staple in NYC building construction."...when an out-of-control taxi jumped the curb and crashed through their 42nd Street headquarters entrance, that's exactly the work they needed done. BORO Architects completely redesigned this prominently-located corner entrance with new facades on 42nd Street and 10th Avenue and a new entrance lobby and stair." - Boro Architects
Concreteworks East joined BORO Architects in the project to provide precast concrete stair treads for the lobby staircase as part of the Local 580 renovation. The stair treads, made in a bright white to contrast the black ornamental steel work throughout the facade and space, were fabricated with a unique stone aggregate. The tops surfaces of the stair treads were heavily polished, revealing the aggregate in creating a beautiful terrazzo finish.
