Concreteworks East’s casting team sprays the GFRC face coat into the mold of what will become a precast exterior wall panel. Why is the face coat application of GFRC important to architetcs and designers? The face coat allows a increased area of the finished surface to be applied from the same mixing batch, creating greater color consistency over large areas, as opposed to the coventional method of direct pouring concrete would use many mixer batches over the same area. Additionally, the face coat creates a surface layer void of any large glass fibers so the architetcural precast concrete can be deeply polished or ecthed to the desired finish without exposing the glass fiber strands within the concrete mix.
