Board Form Concrete Panels for Adidas Retail

In collaboration with TPG Architecture, Concreteworks East has developed and fabricated custom board formed GFRC precast panels for Adidas in their recent and continued shopping mall retail rollouts throughout the United States. The richly textured concrete panels completely clad the entry portal of the storefront, both on the exterior and interior of the store, making the portal an instantly recognizable element.

Our production team carefully examines each plank of wood used in the panel molds to ensure the best sections of grain are used and the finished product meets the client’s expectations.  The offset plank design disguises any seaming in creating a bold monolthic structure when installed while gapping between planks creates the effect of the seeping concrete as if the portal was cast right in place. The nuetral grey color emphasizes the raw feel of the concrete as you transition from the mall into the Adidas store.

The process begins with Concreteworks East visiting the retail location during the early framing portion of the construction phase to completely field verify the portal and ensure there are no major changes to the architect’s design intent. Once field sizing is confirmed, the production team takes over and starts their expedited fabrication schedule to meet the quick retail turnover schedule. The wood planks are examined, cut to size, and placed in the molds that will create the board form panels. The concrete is then cast, panels are demolded, washed, and finally sealed to round out the fabrication. Prior to installation, the install team preassembles sections of the portal to ensure the plank joints all fit well and are not distinguishable. The finally, the board form precast panels are brought to the site, installed, and detailed with the finishing touches.
