As part of the revitalized South Street Seaport District and serving as the cornerstone attraction for Pier 17, Bar Wayo is new concept from David Chang’s Momofuku brand. Featuring seasonal cocktails, beer, and wine and a menu of snacks and dishes, the bar serves as the seventh collaboration between Momofuko and designer DesignAgency can continued collaboration with Richard H. Lewis Architects. The casual atmosphere contains a 27-seat wrap around bar and a 50-seat riverside patio, lined with white oak, copper, and concrete.
Concreteworks East was excited to collaborate on the project, fabricating custom GFRC precast stair treads and landings, as well as board formed cladding panels for the main serving bar. The stair treads feature a back cut integral riser and a pair of stainless steel abrasive strips, cast in our Grammercy color. The board form panels for the face of the serving area feature vertical planks, instead of the traditional horizontal planks, in a random pattern of plank widths. Combined with the Coastal finish which contains concrete seepage between each plank, the panels provide a beautiful raw texture and natural texture to the space.
