Healthcare is constantly changing, hospitals are getting crowded, and patients are unhappy. Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) is taking a step towards rectifying the relationship between patients and hospitals by building a $230-million, 280,000 square-foot Ambulatory Care Pavilion. The purpose is to free up space in the hospital for critical care and difficult procedures.
The ambulatory care center will offer out-patient services and deal with less complicated procedures. The announcement follows suit to a newly redesigned 6,000 square-foot main lobby for Westchester Medical Center. The lobby includes a caregiver center for patients’ families. The new lobby was completed in the summer of 2016.
Concreteworks East was very happy to contribute to the project. We fabricated the waterfall wall panels and coping. The exterior waterfall is a major feature as you enter the medical center and is part of the overall structure that is the entrance sign for the center’s roundabout. We developed a very unique custom sample specifically for this project.
The ¾’’ glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) panels have small, dark stone aggregate throughout the entire face of the panels in such a way that you cannot see any concrete from the face. The stone was very precisely placed in the mold to ensure the final had this effect. These panels make up the surface to where the water falls down, ultimately into the fountain basin at the bottom. Concreteworks East collaborated with Aqua Design Group on the waterfall.
